This project comprised the refurbishment of two existing schools sharing the same site. St Josephs Senior National School and St Josephs Junior National School. The brief was to carry out refurbishment works with a view to reducing energy costs and upgrade/replace the failing fabric of the buildings. The refurbishment works included the replacement of the roof, external windows and doors, new external insulated cladding /render system and total replacement of services including a new wood chip boiler heating system. The new roof and wall systems include substantially improved insulation values along with energy efficient windows and doors. Overall through the use of thermal and energy efficient elements of the fabric combined with a new efficient and low energy renewable heating system the overall energy costs of the school have been significantly reduced.
